Since co-founding Tri-Merit in 2007, Andrew has been responsible for managing the execution of hundreds of R&D tax credit studies across a broad range of industries, as well as overseeing the rest of Tri-Merit’s specialty tax services engagements. His work encompasses studies in §179D deductions, cost segregation, and work opportunity tax credits.

In addition to leading Tri-Merit’s technical staff, Andrew still maintains personal involvement in many of the firm’s client engagements. His experience includes defending R&D tax credit audits at both the federal and state levels, and he regularly presents on the R&D tax credit, §179D deductions, and work opportunity tax credits.

Prior to founding Tri-Merit, Andrew spent over 13 years directly involved in various engineering and manufacturing roles with a broad range of companies and industries including:
  • The Big 3 (General Motors, Ford and Chrysler),
  • Tier-1 and Tier-2 automotive suppliers (Delphi, Visteon, American Axle, Metaldyne, etc.),
  • Semiconductor (Intel, On Semiconductor and Applied Materials)
  • Software development (EDS, UGS, and Technomatix)
  • Professional engineering services firms (Fluor Corporation, Industrial Design Corporation, and Design Systems)
Andrew holds a MBA in Finance from DePaul University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University).

As a Co-Founder of Tri-Merit Randy brings more than 25 years of public accounting and tax consulting experience to Tri-Merit. Throughout his career, Randy has used his expertise to work closely with top company executives on tax planning and preparation engagements. Prior to founding Tri-Merit, he was Managing Partner of a Certified Public Accounting firm in Palatine, Illinois. His firm handled accounting and tax consulting activities for companies in a wide range of industries.

Randy conducts CPE seminars around the country on the R&D tax credit and has had numerous articles published on the subject.

Since joining Tri-Merit in 2011, Phil has been responsible for personally completing hundreds of R&D tax credit studies across the United States, as well as the management of more than 20 successful audits related to R&D credit claims. In January, 2016, Phil assumed direction of both the Engineering Services team at Tri-Merit as well as the Tax Controversy department. He is currently responsible for client engagements nationwide as well as audit defense of contested credits.

Prior to joining Tri-Merit, Phil spent five years with Tier-1 and Tier-2 automotive suppliers working as a Manufacturing Engineer and Controls Engineer, and an additional seven years as an Associate Attorney with a mid-sized law firm out of Detroit.

Phil holds a Juris Doctor specializing in Intellectual Property and Communications Law from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University. He works out of the firm’s Grand Rapids, Michigan office.

With nearly three decades of valuable experience, Patrick serves as Managing Director of Business Development of Tri-Merit. His consultation and problem solving acumen have supported clients in the automotive, aerospace and defense, energy, information technology services, oil and gas, telecommunications, computers, and semiconductor industries. He has also served in a leadership capacity in support of manufacturers and CPA firms.

Prior to joining us in 2009, Patrick owned several highly successful businesses, and his career has included experience with mid-sized businesses up through Fortune 500 companies.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Minnesota State University – Mankato.
